The Apple Store website experienced brief outages for some users in major US metropolitan areas during the busy holiday season.
The company's system status web page does not have an Apple Store category, but Down Detector has experienced numerous outages in the last 24 hours.
The first burst of crash reports indicated that problems arose around 20:34. EST until 10:00 PM EST on Tuesday evenings. The issue seemed to be resolved until around 8am EST on Wednesday, when more reports of crashes on the Apple Store website began to come in.
Messages slowed down again as of 10:30 am EST on Wednesday, indicating that the outage is over. These outages may continue as website traffic increases during morning and evening peak hours.
The failure affects the ability of customers to visit the web page or add items to the cart. It is not clear how many people this will affect.
Two AppleInsider employees actively used the store in browsers during the reporting period and had no problems with purchases, and one purchase made was completed without problems.
Apple hasn't made any claims about performance issues, but they're usually resolved within a few hours. Reports tend to come from major US cities, so heavy traffic in the morning and evening can cause congestion.
