Several App Store employees fired in China for receiving free meals and trips to nightclubs from developers

According to a report from The Information, at least five employees who worked at the App Store in China were fired for inappropriate behavior towards developers and consultants.


‌App Store‌ Review and editorial staff are not supposed to meet with developers, but an internal audit raised the suspicions of about a half-dozen staff, leading to an investigation. Apple found that employees accepted free meals and nightclub trips from developers and consultants who run the business by claiming they could put games on the ‌App Store‌.

The employees involved did not endorse the apps or wanted to do this. were able to add applications to the ‌App Store‌ or removed from the ‌App Store‌, but they had the right to use the ‌App Store‌ apps to get more views. It is unclear whether the employees exposed the apps of the developers they interacted with inappropriately.

In a statement, an Apple spokesperson said Apple expects employees to comply with its business conduct policies.

“Without commenting on the specific allegations in this report, Apple expects its employees around the world to comply with its very strict rules of ethics and business conduct. We thoroughly investigate reports of inappropriate behavior and will not hesitate to do so when appropriate. take immediate action, up to and including termination.”

According to former Apple employees, Apple is seeking to keep the ‌App Store‌ employees and developers separated, and is also trying to limit interaction between different ‌App Store‌ departments to prevent the disclosure of confidential developer information and limit developer influence over employees.
