John Stauffer was Apple's head of CarPlay and Group FaceTime — and now he is leaving the company for Roblox.
Roblox is hiring John Stauffer as Vice President of Engineering, responsible for the Core VR Engine. He will report directly to CTO Daniel Sturman.
According to the Axios report, Roblox approached Stauffer about a year ago. He said it took a little time to convince him, but his kids are thrilled that his dad will create Roblox.
“John saw Apple grow from a much smaller company,” Sturman said. “This is the path we hope/want/expect to take.”
John Stauffer has been with Apple for over 23 years and has spent the last 14 years running the Apple Interactive Media Group. They are behind products like CarPlay, Group FaceTime and AirPlay.
His engineering and leadership experience will likely be of great help to Roblox, which hopes to have its platform work on as many devices as possible. The game is making good money for Apple, with one June 2021 report saying it was making $1 million a day in the App Store.
