Apple has reportedly begun development on a 20-inch display, possibly for a future MacBook Pro, according to a report from The Elec today, citing industry sources.

Concept: Astropad
According to According to the report, the 20-inch device will feature a 20.25-inch OLED display manufactured by an unknown South Korean component supplier. With a 20.25-inch display when unfolded, the device will have a 15.3-inch screen when folded, which is larger than the largest iPad Pro but smaller than the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Given that the screen size when unfolded is the first 20 inches, the product of the project will probably have a shape close to a MacBook (laptop). Assuming a 20″ product is 20.25″, it will measure 15.3″ when folded. Currently available screen sizes for the Apple MacBook Series are mid to late 10 inches, while screen sizes for the iPad (tablet) series range from less than 10 inches to the first 10 inches.

The report claims that Apple expects a mass commercial launch of its foldable device in 2026 or 2027, but fears that Apple is unlikely to do so until it transitions iPads and Macs to OLED displays. Currently, only high-end iPhones and Apple Watch models have OLED displays, while other Apple products have LCD panels.

In addition to the report, The Elec claims that Apple is looking to replace the iPad mini. with a 10″ foldable device and marks the foldable ‌iPhone‌ “unlikely” despite reports that Apple is working on one.

According to today's report, Apple plans to release 11-inch and 12.9-inch ‌iPad‌ models with OLED displays in 2024, which is in line with previous reports and rumors. The report also mentions 2025 when Apple plans to introduce the MacBook Pro with an OLED display.
