Apple TV+ will not air Mariah Carey's third Christmas special this December as the star has moved to CBS and Paramount+.

Mariah Carey's first Christmas release of 2020 was a huge success for the streamer. It reportedly topped the viewing charts in over 100 countries and cost approximately $5 million to make.

This success was enough that Apple was not only eager to release a second special edition of Carey for Christmas 2021, but was also ready to increase the budget.

There won't be a third part. Instead, “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to all!” will air December 20, 2022 on CBS. It will also be available live and later on demand on Paramount+.

According to Deadline, there will be an opportunity to watch the MTV special afterwards.

However, the airing on CBS is important. Despite Oprah Winfrey's famous explanation that she wanted to join Apple TV+ so she could have “a billion pockets, y'all,” there's something traditionally Christmasy about being on network TV.

And this move to CBS continues what has become Carey's network and streamer tour. Her first Christmas special was on ABC in 2010, then she was a guest on Michael Bublé on NBC in 2013.

Carey then appeared in both a Christmas movie and a Hallmark Musical Special in 2015. In 2016, she starred in a Christmas special on YouTube Red.

Neither Apple nor Carey's representatives have commented on her move to CBS.
