Wireless charging for the iPad Pro is finally here — if you want to spend $200 or more on the Pitaka MagEZ Case Pro ecosystem.

There are several products in Pitaka's MagEZ line, but they are all based on the MagEZ Case Pro. Here's where we'll start.

MagEZ Pro case

Pitaka MagEZ Pro case looks more like a case than a case . full case and wraps around the back of the latest generation iPad Pro. The USB-C adapter attached to the Pro case connects to the iPad's port to then route the magnetic charging connection from the back of the case to the port.

This is a smart wireless charging solution for iPad Pro. The left side of the iPad is left unprotected, so it can work with the Magic Keyboard for iPad.

MagEZ Pro is thin enough to fit into an Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad case, and includes the three connection points you need to transfer data and power.

We plugged our 11-inch iPad Pro into the Magic Keyboard for iPad without any problems and closed it. The Pitaka case has almost disappeared when used with the Apple keyboard case.

The X on the back of the case is the connection point for charging

The USB-C adapter in the Pitaka Pro Case can even be folded back. In this case, you need to connect another cable to iPad.

We liked the smooth back of the Pitaka, covered with aromatic polyamide (aramid fibre). It was nice to have the iPad while using it on the couch.

The biggest concern is not the case itself, but its $99 price tag. The case's wireless power advantage requires the additional cost of a stand or compatible charger.

If you like the idea of a thin protective shell that can be used with the Magic Keyboard (and you don't need the power part), Pitaka will make the MagEZ Case 2 a little cheaper.

Note. We used a prototype of the new case with an 11-inch iPad Pro, but there were no issues with fit or performance.

MagEZ Charging Stand

MagEZ Charging Stand with MagEZ Pro Case included

The MagEZ charging cradle delivers power and performance. We've seen the stand provide about 20W of power to our connected iPad and 15W from the Qi charger in the base when it had a Google Pixel 7 on it at the same time.

The stand can rotate the iPad 360 degrees from landscape orientation into a portrait. It can also tilt up and down 32.5 degrees.

We wished the vertical arm could be adjusted up or down for more versatility, but the 9.7-inch height was still a good fit for iPad typing and watching movies.

The magnetic force of the MagEZ charging cradle and MagEZ Pro case was strong. We had no fear that the iPad would slip or fall if hit.

Convenience at what cost?

Using an iPad case usually means sacrificing some convenience. Using only the Magic Keyboard for iPad is heavy and cumbersome. Other iPad cases are difficult to remove and put back on.

The Pitaka MagEZ Pro case is the rare case where an iPad can always (mostly) stay closed and still enjoy the benefits of Apple accessories. It worked well and I was pleased to hold it in my hands.

The main problem, however, is the cost. It's expensive to spend $99 on the Pro Case and then $129 on the charging cradle. Other accessories will also boost this score.

There are many iPad stands we like for less money. But the extra functionality of the Pitaka case and stand is certainly handy if you're willing to splurge.

Ultimately, we don't think you'll be disappointed if you need what Pitaka has to offer. But it's not perfect.
