Rumors have been circulating that Apple has been planning price increases for its Pro models for years. Some analysts expected the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max to cost $100 to $200 more without changing storage options. Here's what really happened.
How did these rumors spread? Luckily, the iPhone 15 Pro has the same starting price of $999 for 128GB of storage as the iPhone 14 Pro. Not bad, considering all the new features in the new model.
The situation is a little different with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which now has the highest starting price of any iPhone. The iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199, up from $1,099 for the iPhone 14 Pro, although that's not a direct $100 price increase.
Instead, Apple ditched the 128GB storage option on the iPhone 15 Pro. Line Max. The new entry-level storage for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 256GB for $1,199. That's the same price as the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 256GB of storage.
Consumers will obviously be happier with the $1,099 iPhone 15 Pro Max with 128GB of storage, but at least we won't have to pay $100 more for the same storage as last year.
The move does create a slight difference between the Pro and Pro Max lines this year, however: the iPhone 15 Pro comes with four storage options , and the iPhone 15 Pro Max only comes with three storage options. iPhone 15 Pro storage options include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The iPhone 15 Pro Max includes 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
Apple has been rumored to be expanding capacity to 2TB in the iPhone Pro line for a couple of years now, but for now that's only an option for the iPad Pro and Mac.
