iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro screen sizes

First time in The standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are available in the same screen sizes. No matter which family you choose, you have a choice between a 6.1-inch or 6.7-inch screen. This is a significant change from the last two years, when the top-notch “Pro Max” was the only choice for those who wanted the largest 6.7-inch screen.

But with that in mind, there are big differences in screen technology and features. Namely, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offer ProMotion display technology for smoother animations, a new digital island that replaces the notch, and the first ever Always-On display.

The iPhone 14 Pro always-on display allows you to always display lock screen widgets, time, and wallpaper. This is the first time Apple has implemented Always-On Display for the iPhone.

Meanwhile, Digital Island offers a new level of interactivity instead of a cutout. You can press and hold to find more options and controls. Dynamic Island can display things like album art for content in the Music app, controls for FaceTime, certain background activities, and more. The new Live Actions feature introduced in iOS 16 also integrates with Dynamic Island, which means you can see live notifications right in the new screen area.

While these are the main differences between the displays, there are other technical points as well. also details. Here's a full breakdown of the display technology inside the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

Size and design

There are some notable design and size differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro lines, even though they have the same screen sizes. There are also differences between the materials used for each model, weight, and more.

As you can see in the chart below, the approximate dimensions of the respective iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models are the same. The biggest difference is weight: the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max weigh noticeably more than their non-professional counterparts. This is due to heavier stainless steel edges, larger camera modules (more on that in a moment) and larger batteries.

Here's a summary of what you need to know.

    Performance

For the first time in history, Apple has split performance between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. iPhone 14 models feature an updated version of the A15 chip used last year (only with an added GPU core). The iPhone 14 Pro models use the latest Apple A16 Bionic chip, which is Apple's first 4nm processor.

We are still waiting for the exact performance of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. The point is, however, that iPhone performance is already overkill for most buyers these days.

Here is a breakdown of the full iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 specs:

    Battery Life

Battery life is an important consideration when choosing an iPhone 14 to order. Apple's battery stats might be a little vague, but here's what we know.

    Camera

One of the biggest differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is camera technology. The gap between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is even bigger this year than before. Because of the new 48-megapixel camera on the iPhone 14 Pro, the main camera uses quad-pixel technology to adapt to the photo being taken.

Both iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro also feature the new photon engine. Apple describes it as a new computational photography feature that offers “a giant leap in mid- and low-light performance across all cameras through deep integration of hardware and software.”

According to Apple, you can expect improvements in medium and low-light performance on the iPhone 14: up to 2x on the ultra-wide camera, 2x on the TrueDepth camera, and 2.5x on the main camera.

On iPhone 14 Pro, the advantage is even greater: up to 2x on the main camera, up to 3x on the ultra-wide camera, up to 2x on the telephoto camera, and up to 2x on the TrueDepth camera.

Both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro line offer one of the biggest jumps in front-facing camera performance we've ever seen. Both use a new ƒ/1.9 aperture camera that delivers better photos and videos in low light. It also offers autofocus for the first time, so it can focus in low light and take group selfies from a greater distance.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: what to buy this holiday season?

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro lines are very similar in many ways. This is especially true because of the screen size options. Like I said at the beginning, you no longer have to buy the most expensive iPhone to get the biggest display. For many people, screen size is one of the deciding factors when choosing an iPhone.

The biggest differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are new display features, including Digital Island and Always-On, and camera upgrades. Digital Island and Always-On Display provide an extra level of functionality over previous generations of iPhone. However, these improvements do not significantly change how you use your iPhone every day.

The camera upgrades offered by the iPhone 14 Pro over the iPhone 14 are the most important things to consider. If you're constantly shooting videos and photos with your iPhone, these changes will greatly improve the end result. The combination of new computational photography features and a 48MP sensor is huge. For the first time in years, Apple has increased the number of megapixels on the iPhone's main camera.

My personal suggestion is to see how you use your iPhone and look at the price difference between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Are you taking enough photos and videos to really take advantage of the new camera features? Are you constantly taking pictures and making videos of something really important in your life? If so, then the iPhone 14 Pro is the one for you.

But if not, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are still incredible phones. The camera hardware is as impressive as it has been in years past, and you benefit from some additional computational photography technology. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are also noticeably cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro models.

One thing to keep in mind: iPhone 14 Pro stocks are very, very low right now. Apple has warned that the current COVID-19 restrictions in China are significantly hindering production. If you're planning to buy it, do it now so you don't miss shipping for the holidays.

What do you think of the debate between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro? Let us know in the comments!
