Over the past couple of weeks, images of an unreleased Apple MagSafe charger called the “Apple Magic Charger” have surfaced online.

Since then, other Asian collectors seem to have gotten their hands on the Design Verification (DVT) versions of the device and are posting images of them online.

TheBlueMister proceeded to disassemble the accessory to restore it to working order, and showed part of the process on Twitter. Connecting to a Mac reveals that the unreleased accessory is called the “Apple Magic Charger”.

The accessory has a rubberized white MagSafe charger inside a rounded anodized aluminum square that can be pulled out to a vertical position. It appears to have a space gray finish and includes a white rubberized base to hold it to surfaces, as well as a built-in braided USB-C cable for charging. It also bears a resemblance to the iPhone Lightning Dock. A Twitter user known as DuanRui shared additional images of the unreleased Apple Magic Charger today.

Similar to the Apple Watch swivel charger on MagSafe Duo and the now discontinued Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock and the first MagSafe the charger has been seen in a swivel design on an official Apple accessory.
The design seems somewhat limited for a iPhone since it can't be placed vertically in portrait orientation on a charger, which proves useful for viewing content in landscape mode only. MagSafe the puck can still charge the iPhone flat, and AirPods with MagSafe Charging case.
TheBlueMister says Apple's Magic Charger's early design was limited to holding an iPhone only in vertical, horizontal position, and these limitations seem to have been one of the main reasons why Apple closed the product.
