Apple TV+ today releases a new documentary series exploring the creepy phenomenon known as the Enfield Poltergeist, perfect for the Halloween season. All four episodes are currently streaming.
The horrifying events of the Enfield Poltergeist date back to 1977. A council house in England is said to be haunted. . Sisters Janet and Margaret Hodgson found themselves at the center of events. Their parent called the police and reported hearing unexplained noises and seeing furniture moving on its own. Later there were reports of children levitating, creepy voices and much more.
Police never found evidence of anything suspicious. Paranormal investigators and journalists followed the family for nearly two years, allegedly confirming the family's claims. So-called paranormal detective Maurice Gross made recordings from the house that included whistling sounds, barking and a voice said to belong to a poltergeist.
It is these tape recordings that come to life in the TV show “The Enfield Poltergeist”. The series is more of a documentary than a drama, but features dramatic reconstructions of events, with actors lip-syncing to voices on tape recordings. It also includes interviews with the people involved, including the children at the center of the case, who are now adults.
