The Couchmaster Cybot is a clunky workstation that doesn't seem to fit any use case well enough to justify the high price.

The idea of a sofa table or desk is quite simple — provide an accessible and ergonomic work surface while sitting away from a dedicated desk. It needs to support a laptop or keyboard and offer some sort of advantage, such as convenience, cable management, or power.

The Couchmaster Cybot provides almost none of this. It's an oversized, expensive three-piece system that doesn't physically connect, and somehow costs $156.

We see how such a product should theoretically work and that some people might find it useful. However, in our testing, we found it to be a disappointing product, built with too high user expectations.

This opinionated product asks the user to match its design. And his opinion about lap tables goes against the way we are comfortable to sit and work.

Couchmaster Cybot Design

The Couchmaster Cybot has three parts. It consists of two pieces of fabric that resemble the armrests of a sofa and a wooden desktop.

The cushions are made from soft-touch fabric with a solid dark material on top and a gray technical camouflage pattern on the sides. There are no other color options and the nicest thing we can say about the design is that it is gaudy.

Camouflage may not be to everyone's liking

There are two mesh storage pockets on the left side cushion. One can hold cables and the other is suitable for a bottle or jar. The kit includes an adhesive pocket for additional storage of the mouse, which can be attached anywhere.

There are zippers that run from one end of the cushion to the other, but the pictures on the Couchmaster website never let you see them. They are inexplicably invisible from any angle on the site, despite the fact that they should appear at some point.

The black wooden desktop is made from bamboo, which seems to justify the high price. It is quite thick and heavy, but this may be necessary given the design of the table.

The side of the table has ventilation holes designed for a laptop and a large flat surface for the included mouse pad. A small groove in the upper right corner is designed to hold the tablet.

The Couchmaster Cybot is designed as a three part system. The parts don't connect in any way, so users put pillows on their sofa and then sit on the desk, straddling the pillows.

Using Couchmaster Cybot

After everything is set up, Couchmaster Cybot can be kind comfortable. The cushions provide good support and the table feels solid.

However, you are kind of chained to a certain sitting position and can't move much. Getting up and down again is a whole process in itself, and repositioning can become quite unreliable.

Sit at a desk

If you are a little younger, sit very still in slightly reclined position is easy even for hours. This ability fades as you get older, and Couchmaster Cybot definitely doesn't expect you to move around a lot.

Don't try to move too much or your iPad may quickly fall to the floor

Our sofa is hard so you sit relatively high and don't sink into the cushions. However, the table seems to be too high and our arms sit in such a way that our shoulders rise a little.

People with sagging sofas will not be able to comfortably use this table.

The pillows are also quite large, to the point where the setup doesn't allow anyone to fit on the — at least not convenient.

We couldn't use the Couchmaster Cybot on the ends, only on the center cushion. The armrests of the couch were too low to use just one side of the Couchmaster Cybot armrests with the table part balanced on the armrest of the couch.

Due to these limitations, we were locked into one position to use this table.

Working at the desk

Setting up the desk similar to the product photos shown on the web Couchmaster website. Our 14-inch MacBook Pro sat above the air vents on the left, while the iPad mini fit in the slot on the right.

Firstly, this is a terrible alignment. We have no idea why Couchmaster expects people to use a notepad skewed to one side — except maybe gamers.

Centering the MacBook didn't help much

Moving the laptop to the center of the table is an option, but the mouse pad that is now stuck to the table creates an uneven surface. The MacBook sits at an obvious tilt when centered. We could have done without a mouse pad, but we wanted to set it up the way it was suggested on the website.

The tablet holder is almost useless, as the iPad mini easily falls in and out of the holder with the slightest movement. It must lie in landscape orientation to remain in the slot, and even then barely.

We are ready to admit that perhaps this product is simply not for us. It seems to be more like teenagers, especially gamers.

We play on the console and do not use the mouse and keyboard to control. This table seems to be tailor-made for this setup.

Should I buy the Couchmaster Cybot

For everyone If you want to work with your laptop on the couch or bed, the Couchmaster Cybot is not the best option. There are many desktop and sofa tables that are much better and cheaper than this product.

It's not exactly compact to store when not in use

Gamers who like to disguise objects might want Couchmaster Cybot, but only those who play with an external mouse and their laptop skewed to the side. In any case, it does not look very ergonomic.

Due to the price and size, it's hard to justify. We have only described the use of the — Storing such a large sofa table is a chore in itself.

Couchmaster Cybot Pro

  • It's pretty handy when everything is set up

Couchmaster Cybot Cons

  • Camouflage is definitely an opinionated choice. and the only one you can make
  • Huge area for sofa use and storage
  • Nonsense desk layout is an ergonomic nightmare
  • Can't help but feel locked in a desk three-piece that requires effort every time you stand up or sit down

Rating: 2.0 out of 5

The only reason the Couchmaster Cybot gets 2.0 is because it works like a desk, just not good. We cannot recommend it to anyone who needs to work from their couch.

Gamers who use an external mouse may find it more like the 3.0, but only if you're happy with the size, price, and design.
