Apple has changed the charging port from Lightning to USB-C in the iPhone 15. A USB-C charging cable is included in the box. but upgraders may need to purchase a separate cable to continue using CarPlay.
USB-A is common in cars
This is because many cars use the USB-A port to enable CarPlay. Wireless CarPlay adapters eliminate wired connections, but charging while you drive is just as important.
Unfortunately, Apple has not released its own USB-A to USB-C cable for this situation. It also doesn't sell USB-A to USB-C cables from any of its partners like Belkin and Mophie. Instead, the company sells a USB-C to Lightning adapter for $29 as an official solution.
My advice? Don't spend $30 on a dongle when you can just replace the cable. Even though Apple doesn't sell them, USB-A to USB-C cables are easy to find. However, I also think it's important to stick with brands you know. After all, it's your machine, so you don't want anything that could pose a fire hazard.

Another approach, although more expensive, is to use a Wireless adapter CarPlay. I bought the one recommended by 9to5Mac (https://9to5mac.com/2023/09/10/carplay-wireless-carplay-adapter/) and it works well. There is a delay when controlling audio playback, but otherwise everything works quite smoothly.

The difficulty in planning ahead in this situation is that not all USB-A to USB-C cables support data transfer. The same applies to USB-A to Lightning cables, but charging-only USB-A to USB-C cables are more common.
These are some solutions from trusted brands that should support CarPlay. and I run on the first day.
- Belkin Braided USB-A to USB-C Cable ($11.24)
- Anker Braided USB-A to USB-C Cable (2-Pack $6.99)
- Amazon Basics USB-A to USB-C Cable ($15.20)
Another option is to adapt the USB-A port A of your car to USB-C, but I would be hesitant to give it up with just any dongle connected to my car. Satechi makes a USB-A to USB-C adapter for $6.99, but I'm not sure CarPlay will work without testing it myself.
Alternatively, you can spend $30 on an Apple USB adapter -C to Lightning. adapter and use the cable you already have, but this is not the only way to use CarPlay.
