Just as “The Black Bird” was based on a true story, new series creator Dennis Lehane is taking inspiration from a true story for the new series. However, this time around, the inspiration came not from the book, but from the Firebug podcast hosted by Black Bird executive producer Kari Antolis.

Apple says the upcoming series will “follow a troubled detective and a mysterious arson investigator… who are on the trail of two serial arsonists.”

The Arson Investigator will be played by Taron Egerton, who starred in Black Bird and is also an executive producer. He, Lehan, and Antolis were joined by other Blackbird executives, Richard Plepler, Bradley Thomas, and Dan Friedkin.

There have been no further details on production or broadcast dates for the new series. The Black Bird is currently streaming in its entirety on Apple TV+.
