Astropad updates its Astropad Studio and Luna Display with support for iPad Pro M2 models, including a new Hover Mode for Apple Pencil.
Astropad Studio's version 5.2 update released on Wednesday uses the 2022 iPad Pro's hover mode feature, which allows users to interact with the display using an Apple Pencil, but without the two devices touching.
Hover support was a frequently requested feature, according to Astropad, but the company couldn't do much without Apple adding support for the hover engine itself.
This addition is like Apple adding one of the latest Wacom tablet features that the iPad doesn't have. Astropad believes this change makes the iPad Pro the best Wacom replacement for digital artists.
The update also includes the Magic Gestures extension, which allows you to touch your Apple Pencil to interact with the software. In the latest version, you can set up a new single-finger tap gesture as well as double-tap shortcuts.
There are also custom gestures for each application, so that users can set different gestures for each application they use.
In the same update, Astropad Studio gets support for 3D sculpting in Blender and Zbrush. New gestures for panning, zooming, and rotating the 3D canvas are included, along with new default keyboard shortcuts and custom keyboard shortcuts for use with 3D applications.
Luna Display has also been updated to support the new iPad Pro models.
Updates apply to both desktop and iPad apps for each package. Apple hardware system requirements include macOS 10.11 El Capitan or later for Mac computers, iPadOS 12.1 or later for iPad, and 802.11n Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet.
Astropad is also running a Black Friday sale. It provides 30% off all Luna Display orders and 30% off Astropad Studio annual subscription using Festive coupon code.
