Apple today shared a new transparency report detailing customer data requests it received from the US government in the first half of 2022.
For the first time, Apple reported the total number of “geofencing requests” received from the US government. These requests are intended to include specific latitude and longitude coordinates for a specific period of time, but Apple does not collect this information as part of its customer privacy commitments and therefore does not provide it to law enforcement while fully complying with the legal process.
From the Transparency Report:
Apple may also receive requests from government agencies to obtain customer data associated with specific latitude and longitude coordinates (geofences) for a specific period of time . Apple does not have data to provide in response to geofencing requests.
