Apple Watch Ultra 2 is touted to have 72-hour battery life in Low Power mode, but there's a catch

Although the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is touted to offer up to 72 hours of battery life in Low Power mode, up from 60 hours for the original Ultra model, there's a catch.

According to the fine print on Apple's website, the testing parameters for the Ultra 2 in low power mode were different from those for the original Ultra.

The original Apple Watch Ultra fine print said:

Multi-day Adventure battery life based on the following use in Low Power mode and with workout settings enabled for fewer GPS and heart rate readings: 15 hours Walking workouts, 600+ time checks, 35 minutes of app usage, 3 minutes of talk time, and 15 hours of sleep tracking over 60 hours.

The fine print on Apple Watch Ultra 2 reads:

Battery life in Low Power Mode is based on the following usage: 360 time check, 360 notifications, 180 minutes of app use, and two 60 minute workouts playing Apple Watch music via Bluetooth for 72 hours.

With such different testing parameters, customers should keep in mind that the Ultra 2 doesn't just provide 12 hours more battery life than the original Ultra in low power mode, which can easily be misinterpreted.

It is quite possible that the original Ultra will also last about 72 hours on a single charge. Low Power Mode battery life is based on new testing parameters, but has not yet been proven.

We've reached out to Apple for comment and will update this story if the company responds.
