Killers of the Flower Moon

The CEO of cinema chain Cinemark says that despite the relatively low box office for the epic Killer of the Flower Moon, Apple sees “real value.”

Martin Scorsese and Eric Roth's Killers of the Flower Moon was a box office flop despite initially promising early numbers, bringing in just $23 million for Apple in its opening weekend, $23 million under reported the film's $200 million production cost and unknown marketing expenses. However, Cinemark CEO Sean Gamble told analysts on the company's conference call that both Apple and Amazon are “very pleased” with their theatrical results .

“They see real value in this space,” Gamble said, according to Deadline magazine.

“[Apple] is really just getting started,” Gamble continued. “They used to work at a slightly smaller level, but now they collaborate with major filmmakers.”

“Over the next five months they have three huge releases: Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon and Argyle,” he said. “All are hitting theaters through distribution partnerships with major studios, but unlike CODA or past Apple films, the trio will spend several weeks in theaters before being available to watch on Apple TV+.”

Napoleon will be released in theaters on November 22, 2023. Argyle is scheduled to be released in cinemas in February 2024.

Apple has not yet announced broadcast dates for any of these films.
