Apple has stopped selling the MagSafe battery pack and MagSafe Duo charger after the launch of the iPhone 15 with a USB connector. C.
The reason for discontinuing these accessories is pretty obvious: they were iPhone accessories with Lightning ports for power. Instead of replacing them with USB-C versions, Apple decided to stop selling them altogether.
Although these accessories are technically obsolete today’ According to announcement, if you want, you can still buy them on sites like Amazon (MagSafe Battery and MagSafe Duo Charger) while supplies last.
It's unclear whether Apple plans to introduce USB-C versions of these accessories in the future or if these products reach the end of their service life in any case. After all, it's never entirely clear how popular Apple's iPhone accessories are.
MagSafe Duo in particular was showing its age even before Lightning's death. It used a puck to charge the Apple Watch at a slower rate than recent generations of watches can support, and larger Pro Max phones would have a hard time fitting comfortably on the MagSafe Duo if laid flat.
However, some things like the MagSafe battery may come back over time. Apple clearly wasn't ready to update all of its USB-C capable products in time for the iPhone 15. AirPods Pro now come with a USB-C charging case, but the cheaper AirPods and AirPods Max still rely on Lightning for now.
Other Lightning peripherals such as the Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard are also widely used … at the moment.
