Apple releases third betas of iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 to developers [Update: Public beta now available]

Apple today released the third beta versions of iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 to developers for testing. These betas come a week after Apple released the second betas of iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1.


Registered developers can participate in the beta by opening the Settings app, going to Software Update and tapping Beta Updates and switching to iOS 17 Beta or “iPadOS 17” for developers. The Apple ID associated with your developer account is required to download and install the beta.

iOS 17.1 adds the ability to favorite songs, albums, playlists, artists, and more, and favorite content is added to library and is used for proposals. Adding favorites can be done on the lock screen using the Now Playing widget, and when you launch a playlist, you'll now see Song Suggestions.

AirDrop transfers can be completed over the Internet, so close proximity isn't necessary. be supported, and Apple Watch running watchOS 10.1 can now use NameDrop with an iPhone running iOS 17.1.

Other new features include a flashlight indicator on Dynamic Island for models other than the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as a wallet feature. it allows UK residents to connect their banks to view balances and transactions. For more information, see our article on iOS 17.1 features.
