AirPods 4, AirPods Max and more
AirPods 3 currently have a design that similar to AirPods Pro, but without the customizable in-ear fit. Apple also continues to sell AirPods 2, which use the original AirPods design, such as a longer stem.
Bloomberg reports that Apple's AirPods 3 haven't been selling very well, which is why the company plans to rethink its lineup starting in 2024. The report explains that AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 will be discontinued next year, and Apple is planning two different variants of AirPods 4.
The new AirPods 4 models will have a “new design that looks like a mix” of the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro, but neither model will have replaceable and customizable ear tips like the AirPods Pro. AirPods 4 will also use USB-C for charging instead of Lightning.
The two AirPods 4 variants will differ in features such as noise cancellation and Find My integration:
Apple will differentiate two options, including noise cancellation in the more expensive version. This model will also get an updated charging case with speakers for Find My alerts to match the current AirPods Pro. These alerts will make it easier for users to find their case if it gets lost.
Today's report says the AirPods Max will be updated “around the end of next year“ #8221; to add USB-C and new color options. However, other than these updates, Bloomberg claims that there won't be many other changes to the AirPods Max.
AirPods Max were first introduced in December 2020 and have not been updated since then. They feature a Lightning port for charging and lack almost all of the new features Apple announced for AirPods at WWDC this year.
Finally, Bloomberg reports that the AirPods Pro will receive an overhaul, including a new design and a new chip, sometime in 2025. New features may include health-focused capabilities, such as those related to hearing health.
