Back in July, we reported that Apple was testing Tap to Pay in Brazil following its recent user expansion. in the Netherlands. On Tuesday, the company confirmed that Tap to Pay is now officially available in Brazil, allowing merchants to use iPhone to accept contactless payments, whether with Apple Pay, physical cards or other digital wallets.
Apple's Tap to Payment is now available in Brazil
In Brazil, Tap to Pay will be a first for CloudWalk InfinitePay customers. Merchants using the platform can receive contactless payments using only their iPhone, which with the new feature turns into a terminal for credit and debit cards.
According to Apple, the company is working with more partners in Brazil, including Stone, SumUp (two popular local payment platforms) and Nubank, one of Brazil's most popular banks, to make Tap to Pay available to even more merchants. . Apple Wallet Vice President Jennifer Bailey says that “Brazil is a very entrepreneurial nation.” and believes the feature will be a hit in the country.
According to a report last year, nearly 40% of transactions in Brazil in the third quarter of 2022 were made through contactless payments. There are a large number of NFC-enabled POS terminals in the country.
How it works
This feature allows merchants to accept contactless payments through a compatible iOS app running on iPhone Xs or later running the latest version of iOS. During the checkout process, the merchant will only need to instruct the customer to hold their iPhone, Apple Watch, or compatible NFC card near the merchant's iPhone to make payment.
As with any Apple Tap to Pay payment transaction is processed securely using NFC technology, and there is no need for additional hardware to facilitate contactless payments. In countries where this feature is available, developers can use the API available in iOS 15.4 and later to implement Tap to Pay support.
Tap to Pay first launched in the US in 2022. Earlier this year, Apple expanded this feature to Taiwan and the UK.
- PayPal is finally launching Apple Pay support for its credit and debit cards.
