Apple Music has a new add-on called Apple Music Sing that allows subscribers to sing along, substitute lead singers, or perform duets.

Apple has announced a new Apple Music service, but it's not the classic service that was promised before the end of the year. Instead, it's Apple Music Sing, which uses Apple Music lyrics to provide a karaoke-style experience.

“Apple Music Lyrics Search has consistently been one of the most popular features on our service,” Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and Beats, said in a statement. “We already know that our users around the world love to follow their favorite songs, so we wanted to further develop this offering to provide even more engagement with music through singing.”

“It's really a lot of fun,” insists Schusser, “our customers will love it.”

perhaps now Apple Music Sing can additionally display “multiple lyric views”. This will allow users to “take the lead, duet, sing along, etc.”

With the new Adjustable Vocals feature, users can control the level of vocals in a song. The real singer can be muted enough for the user to take over, or muted enough for that user to sing backing vocals.

The karaoke feature will not be available for the entire Apple Music library. Rather, a “set of over 50 special companion playlists” is being launched. Each will feature “all the epic songs, duets, choruses and anthems that make people around the world sing.”

Apple Music Sing is free for Apple Music subscribers worldwide. It will release later in December and will be available on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 4K.

Apple TV 4K — older Apple TVs are reportedly not supported.
