Apple hands over third beta version of watchOS 10.1 to developers

Apple today made the third beta version of the upcoming watchOS 10.1 update available to developers for testing purposes. The beta version will be released a week after the release of the second beta version of watchOS 10.1.


To install ‌watchOS 10‌.1 update, developers need to open the Apple Watch app and go to Software Update under General in Settings and turn on ‌‌watchOS 10‌‌.1 Developer Beta. An Apple ID associated with a developer account is required.

Once beta updates are activated, “watchOS 10.1” will be available for download in the same Software Update section. To install the software, Apple Watch must have 50 percent battery charge and be placed on the Apple Watch Charger.

watchOS 10.1 adds NameDrop support for sharing contact information with other Apple Watches or iPhones, and it also includes Double-tap yourself.

NameDrop can be used by tapping the Contacts app on Apple Watch, selecting your profile, and tapping the Share button. From here, you can touch your Apple Watch to other Apple Watches running watchOS 10.1 or ‌iPhone‌ iOS 17 launch initiates a contact transfer.

Double tap is a gesture exclusive to Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra that allows users to place their thumb and index finger together to perform actions such as calling up Smart Stack , start a call, pause a song and more.
