Apple Expands Vision Pro Test Labs in New York and Sydney

By Julie Clover

Apple today announced that it is expanding its Vision Pro Developer Labs in New York City, New York City and Sydney, Australia, to provide developers with additional locations where the new headset can be tested with their apps .

Vision Pro Developer Labs opened for the first time in August, giving developers the opportunity to try out Vision headsets Pro to finalize the VisionOS app before the device is released next year.

The first Vision Pro developer labs were limited to Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo, meaning some developers had to travel long distances if they wanted to be able to try out Vision Pro in person. Apple has been criticized for offering only one Vision Pro testing site in the US, since people on the East Coast had to travel to Cupertino.

The lab is now home to the Vision Pro development lab. In New York, developers on the US east coast won't have to travel as far as developers in Australia. Any developer can apply to participate in the Vision Pro Lab, but Apple does not reimburse travel expenses.

Vision Pro Developer Labs provide developers with the opportunity to work with the Vision Pro headset and receive assistance. from Apple engineers. Labs provide testing and optimization capabilities for ‌visionOS‌ apps.

Apple has also sent Vision Pro dev kits to some developers, but dev kits are available in limited quantities and Apple prioritizes apps that best take advantage of Vision Pro's features and capabilities.
