Apple is updating the App Store with iOS 17.2 software, which is in beta, with a focus on app categories.
In the “Applications” section in the App Store There's a new top navigation bar that allows users to scroll through different app categories like Entertainment, Education, Photos & Video, music, navigation and much more. The categories mirror those that can be found at the bottom of the app section in the Category Browse menu.
The Games section also has a similar list of categories, such as Puzzles, Casual, Racing, Indie, Simulation, casino and adventure. They also reflect the categories at the bottom of the Games tab.
Clicking on one of the categories listed under Apps or Games displays the apps that fall into that category. Apple previously had these top bar navigation options for Apple Arcade, but they have been expanded to other App Store sections.

Apple is also copying the “Category Browsing” design first introduced in Apple Arcade tab. Each category is now a card with a detailed icon. In iOS 17 and earlier, categories were simply text lists with simpler icon designs.
iOS 17.2 is currently in beta testing, with a general release expected sometime in December.
