1Password will support passwords from early 2023

1Password Will Support Access Keys Starting Early 2023 Thursday, November 17, 2022 7:45 AM PST by Eric Slivka ., allowing users to sign in to supported websites and apps without a password. Instead, biometric authentication on trusted devices is used to verify your identity, and removing passwords from the equation means they cannot be compromised or spoofed.


Apple rolls out password support to iOS 16, iPadOS 16, tvOS 16, and macOS Ventura with iCloud Keychain sync between devices for ease of use and redundancy. Apple is working with FIDO Alliance members including Google and Microsoft to ensure passkey compatibility, and Apple's passkey implementation will be able to work with third party devices using your iPhone for QR code scanning and authentication.< /p>

1Password Company claims that its password implementation is better than one ecosystem like Apple's because 1Password passwords can work wherever 1Password does, rather than relying on workarounds like scanning a QR code.

For 1Password users interested in how passwords work, the company has posted a demo on its website that requires a 1Password account and the latest version of the 1Password extension for Chrome or Edge. Support for Safari and Firefox is not yet implemented. 1Password also maintains a catalog of websites and apps that have already begun supporting passkeys, including Google, Microsoft, Twitter, eBay, Best Buy, GitHub, and more.

1Password says full support for passkeys will be its Browser extensions and desktop apps coming early 2023, with mobile device support coming later.
